This too shall pass but will we be the better for it ???

Los Angeles California, April 25, 2020

There have been pandemics before that come with famine, disease, loss of life and dare I say greed often comes with these types of disasters because it is natural for some people to take advantage of others during this time. This will pass, but hopefully we will be changed and things will not go back to normal. It’s being said that we are living in a new normal.

I hope that our New Normal causes us to make some very necessary changes. Simple changes like consciously limiting the use of our cars; Southern California is experiencing record low traffic and air pollution and has the 4th best air quality in the country, right now. Top photo; Los Angeles, on a typical day, bottom photo was taken last week.Mother Nature is showing us that we can reverse some of the damages to earth by simply stopping some of the routine’s that we have become accustomed too.
Parent’s will you play a bigger role in your child’s education, pay better attention to how your child or children learn and spend sometime in their classrooms? Learn and become better advocates for better school programming or join the PTA, they really need us (I am a member of Cascade Elem.’ PTA) I paid the fee last year and have not heard a word from them yet, that’s another story. Will you plant your own fruits and vegetables and learn to live off of the natural abundance of this very bountiful land?

I am praying that something good comes from all of this. We need to slow our pace and appreciate spending time with family; I have fallen in love with mine all over again. Does everyone have to be at work at 8 or 9 am and leave at 4 and 5 pm only to sit in traffic for approximately 19 full days per year? By the way the average commute time is thirty-five minutes.

When this passes I hope that COVID19 has changed us for the better. I pray that we take ownership of our lives, community, city, state and government. It is time we all walk into our power and use it to hire /elect people who truly have our best interest in mind and at heart. I want to impress upon you all that We, The People have the power and we are the BOSS of presidents, the senate and congress, governors and mayors and they are to report to us and create laws that protect us not the other way around. They count on us sitting in traffic after a long day at work and being too tired to manage them. We can’t manage if we don’t participate and stay abreast of what is going on at the local, state and government levels. Please brush up on your Civics lessons or for a fresh approach check out this video by DJ Yellow, My Vote Don't Count, he breaks it down proper.  We shall have to do our own research of the candidates who ask for our vote/ hire and that goes for all candidates on the voting ballots including commissioners and judges those candidates directly affect our incomes and quite possibly our freedom from wrongful prosecution.

Most of all I hope that we become better stewards of this great land that we live on, that we respect it by not littering our streets, waterways and green spaces by not dumping and by taking responsibility for polluting the air as little as we possibly can by reducing our carbon foot print. We are truly blessed here in Southwest Atlanta with over 600 acres of green and play spaces. The folks in Buckhead are trying to figure out how to place some green space above Georgia 400, it’s truly a concrete jungle but that’s what they wanted so be it. I will take SW ATL, any day.

Here is my TO DO List:
1.   Stop buying brown leaf bags, leaves are fertilizer and should stay on your property, buy a blower/ mulcher and put those Mother Nature, giving nutrients back into your lawns, for FREE.
2.   Grocery shop online and see how much money you save and have it delivered and really see how much money and time you can save.
3.   Immediate gratification is a budget buster so walk away from it, if it stays on your mind than get it but try to hold out for a sale. Of course forget the entire first portion of this for a great pair of shoes, shoes supersede all.
4.   Consider making your own cleaning and laundry products with baking soda, vinegar, lavender and eucalyptus essential oils and borax, like grandmamma did before Tide changed all of that, it’s too harsh and very expensive. I know we all have figured out how to make hand sanitizer, go ahead and kick it up a notch.

Our money is our TRUE Power, so exercise that power and stop giving it up so freely for things and a lot of can change from being frugal.

I am optimistic that COVID19 will change us for the better and know this will pass and it probably will come back in the fall so be prepared because that too shall pass.

Stay Well & Thrive

The Atlanta City Studio Is hosting a Historic Districts Workshop, A "How To" on preservation, revitalization and a plan for future growth, in Southwest Atlanta.

Several neighborhoods in Southwest Atlanta may very well meet the historical designation criteria's... Something to consider.
Such designations can protect what is in place and an opportunity to truly design the neighborhood or community that your organization wants....
Think about it!
