My beautiful neighbor Reka Eaton, has gone too soon.

   The city of Atlanta, Lawyers for the Arts and Adams Park lost a great resident, advocate, lawyer, friend and neighbor, Reka Eaton. She was my neighbor and an elegant and beautiful woman to watch, speak with and learn from. Reka Eaton lead a beautiful life with her very  lawyer husband John and their son Chris. The Eaton's moved to AP in 1976 during white flight and never left. I love to hear them tell me stories about my home and the people who lived here before me. I have stories about Reka and John that I love to share and laugh about.

   Reka and her husband John started the Atlanta Neighborhood Arts Program back in the 70's, which spawned the talents of Peabo Bryson and many others. The life she led was shown in the warmth of her home and the essence of her beauty, calm and strength. I have been so sadden by the loss of my neighbor because I thought I had time to get to know her better, I will never make that mistake again. APCA FEST, was also spawned from conversations with the Eaton's. Our community festival board will be tasked with finding a beautiful way to commemorate Reka Eaton, we need to share her gifts and talents with our community so that they will know who the real movers and shakers of the arts, are in this city. AP is made up of wonderful talented resident's but I am so particularly pleased to have had Reka Eaton for my neighbor and yes, she will be missed but not forgotten.

        Wow, it is already that time of year. The Holidays, Holy Days are upon us.... we are beginning to put the year into perspective, plan how to befittingly bring the year to a close and plan for the new year and all of the things that it brings. Know that God has a wonderful plan for you and as long as you put action to your prayers he will answer. Be Thankful, Give Thanks and live your life knowing that you are a soldier, here to do good... Your way, your style encapsulating your talent and set forth by you.

We had a PRODUCTIVE NPU-R meeting last evening.

      I am proud to tell you that all of that old negativity is gone. They tried to pull a fast one on us but we stood our ground ousted them and we have a new NPU-R Committee. Ray Abram, Chair, Ricardo Jacobs, Vice Chair and yours truly, Secretary. Please let this email serve as an invite to all to come out and help the NPU-R make our communities, great.

Is a smart, inquisitive third grader at Cascade Elementary School. She has the brightest smile, is always respectful and helpful... How do I know because I pick her up from school a couple of times a week and we do home work together, arts and crafts projects, chores and talk about whatever is on her mind and she is as smart as a whip. When I am with her I feel that it is my responsibility to be a role model and help to continue the responsibility of "A Village" and helping to raise my friends and neighbors most precious commodity... October's NPU-R Meeting....

Our monthly Neighborhood Planning Unit meeting was unproductive and actually brought to an end because a local restaurant brought in food and the chairperson thought is was more important to eat then to discuss NPU Business. How sad is that to hear, that eating would be more important than doing the job that you were elected to do. This type of blatant disdain for our community planning must STOP. We have people in place whom do not truly support us as a community and that is why so few of us attend and or participate because of the elected persons that chair the board.

Next month there will be an election to held to replace the sitting chair members and I and several of the community residents and business people feel the they should be replaced. Please NPU-R residents I urge you to attend the November 7th meeting at the Young YMCA at 7 pm to help elect a new board of chairpersons to serve our community and it's best interest. The NPU was designed to serve as the communities voice to City Hall. The salary for these positions are nominal but the community impact is huge. If we close our minds and eyes to what is happening in our communities we lose and trust me we have lost so much by allowing the sitting chairs to stay, whom are incredibly self serving.

Several neighbors are prepared to run for these positions and even I am ready to throw my name into the that group to help make mine and the surrounding communities as best as possible. Please do a little research and join us to make a stand against poor community management and to have your voice heard and your wants and needs listened to, responded to and implemented if viable, Peace.
